Community Guidelines

Societas is a place for readers and authors to share what they are reading and what they love about books. These guidelines apply to everything you post on Societas: posts, comments, reactions, your handle and your profile.
Be kind
Talk about books, not about people. Disagree with an idea or a book as much as you like, but do not attack, insult or mock other members or authors.
Do not harass, bully, threaten or intimidate anyone, on Societas or elsewhere because of something said here.
No hate
Do not post anything that attacks or demeans people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
Keep it safe
No sexual content involving minors, ever. No sexually explicit images. No threats or promotion of violence, and nothing that encourages self-harm.
If you are worried about your safety or someone else’s, contact your local emergency services.
Mark spoilers and respect authors’ work
Warn readers before you share a major plot twist or ending.
Share short quotes and highlights only. Do not post whole chapters, pirated books or links to them, or anything you do not have the right to share.
Be yourself
Do not pretend to be another person, author or Societas. Your handle must not suggest you speak for Societas.
Authors posting under a pen name must only post as pen names that are their own.
No spam
Do not post the same thing again and again, buy or sell followers or reactions, or post advertising that has nothing to do with books.
Messages
Messages are private, but these guidelines still apply. You can write to someone once they follow you, or reply when they write to you. Until you follow each other, you can send three messages at a time. Never ask for or share passwords or payment details, and report any message that makes you uncomfortable.
Reporting and blocking
If you see something that breaks these guidelines, use Report. We review reports within 24 hours and remove content that breaks these guidelines.
You can block any member or author. Blocking hides their posts from you and yours from them, and ends any follows between you.
We may remove content, and suspend or close accounts, that break these guidelines.
Your reading activity
Your reading activity (books you start or finish, ratings and highlights you share) is private unless you turn on sharing in Account settings. You can turn it off at any time.
Changes
If these guidelines change, we will ask you to read and agree to the new version before you post again.
